Solanum Melongena Fruit Extract Description
Solanum melongena fruit of an antioxidant rich extract derived from the fruit of the solanum melongena plant. Also known as eggplant or aubergine due to its rich purple color, the Solanum melongena fruit is one of the most cultivated and consumed foods worldwide.
This extract’s considerable antioxidant content has made its way into skin care products. There’s limited research about applying solanum melongena fruit extract topically to skin, making it unclear how the antioxidants present in the extract impact skin; however, broader research on polyphenol antioxidants strongly point to topical benefits.
The polyphenols help neutralize oxidative aggressors. When applied to skin, polyphenols help tackle accumulated damage from external irritants. Interestingly enough, some studies suggest that treating solanum melongena with heat can increase its antioxidant benefits, similar to heating tomatoes to increase their lycopene content.
Much like with any other ingredient containing antioxidants, packaging can make or break the effectiveness of solanum melongena fruit extract. Look for products containing this antioxidant heavy ingredient in opaque and airless packaging.
